How to Oil a Wahl Peanut: The 10-Second Secret to Sharp Blades

Why Oil is Mandatory

Steel blades rubbing against each other at thousands of strokes per minute create immense friction. Without oil, this friction causes:

1. Heat: The blade becomes too hot to touch your skin.
2. Wear: The precision edges round off, making the blade “dull.”
3. Rust: Moisture from hair and the air can cause microscopic pitting on the steel.

The 5-Drop Method

Wahl recommends a specific pattern for oiling to ensure total coverage of the cutting surfaces.

1. Clean the blade first: Never oil a dirty blade. Use a brush to remove all hair.
2. Turn the trimmer ON: This creates a ‘distributing’ motion as you apply the oil.
3. Apply 3 drops across the teeth: One on the left edge, one in the middle, and one on the right edge.
4. Apply 1 drop to each rail: These are the side surfaces where the top blade slides against the bottom blade.
5. Let it run for 10 seconds: Let the motor distribute the oil into every groove.
6. Wipe away the excess: Use a clean paper towel. Excess oil will attract more hair and create a ‘sludge.‘
